Mega tree picture help

Hi Guys,

Is it possible to import a gif picture on to my mega tree on top of a background , I.E I would like the whole tree to be say Green with a Pink candy candy cane image going from left to right?
I know how to import the gif image and scale it to the tree, but I can,t create the effect I am looking for, maybe simple but at present I,m stuck

Any advice as usuall is much appreciated here
 
Something like this what you had in mind?
I set up 2 layers
I have the .gif/.png with transparent background, but you can also tick the check box to turn black into a background.
I put the effect with green under it for the 2nd layer.
Spent a minute or three trying to figure out why it wouldn't blend, then I realized the clipart people bagged me by putting it on a checkered white/gray background so it looked like it was "transparent" but it wasn't :-D.
