Null pixel issue in XLights

Hi all,

For the couple of years I've had no problem running 1 or 2 end null pixels on a few props. I.e ChromaCane 99 with a string of 100 pixels, 1 null at end.

However since upgrading to XLights 2025.07 I have found that the null pixels aren't accounted for in FPP as a channel. I have tried deleting them and re-adding them, I've tried Add Null from the controller page and when I do it initially it lists the props that have nulls but when I hit save it defaults back to 1, not allowing me to add 512 channels or any other number.

I know the obvious fix for this would be cut out the null pixels but I also would like to keep the 100 pixels strings as 100 pixels in the event I move them to another prop.

I'm running 3 x Hanson Electronics HE123Mk2's that are capable of running null pixels.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!

They aren't supposed to count as a channel. The prop is 298 channels long. From xLights standpoint, the next prop can start immediately after it. FPP injects the three channels of "black" between them when it outputs the data, but that has no effect on the channel numbering or anything.

Thanks for the explanation Dan. I just got out of the zoom room and was given the same explanation so I was searching for an error that doesn't exist.

Cheers
