Hey guys,

Just wanted to say hi from Lilydale in Victoria. I am designing lighting display for next year. I wanted to jump in this year (2013) but missed the boat and couldn't find any decent RGB fixtures except for those crappy 2 channel Green/Yellow and Blue/Red lights. I'm tipping you guys will have some hookups.

During the day I'm an electrician by trade but I specialise in smart wiring like Clipsal C-Bus and Philips Dynalite. My company also does A/V and DMX installations. In my spare time I'm the lighting director for my church; we have just finished our carols service for the year which included triLED par64 cans, Martin Mac Entour moving lights and some other gear. I just picked up 4 of the older Mac 250's for home and wouldn't mind using them in next year's display, possibly as a wash of colour on the front lawn or perhaps rotating gobos on the house itself. I also want to look into a pixel mapped display of some sort, maybe a Christmas tree?

So anyway this looks like a pretty cool place, I'm interested in what other people have done and what sort of fixtures are available, as eBay and my lighting supplier have failed me. Thanks peeps, Joel.

Hi joel,

Welcome to ACL

I'm just at the top of hill before lilydale. Near the country club. Also L_Tay & Devo run a show at Oxley College that's opposite bunnings (behind BP) in Chirnside.

Most here really don't get into the commercial DMX fixtures. But pixels running through DMX over Ethernet (E1.31) are our bread and butter.

Everyone her is always happy to answer questions, so don't hesitate to ask.

Regards,
Rowan

Hi Joel

Welcome

I'm in Chirnside Park, near the primary school. Was my first year, all RGB strips outlined the house and windows. Will be venturing into candy canes (I saw Rowan's display) and arches, plus mini and mega trees, for 2014.

Check out the manual, I found it helpful in getting started, no doubt like others.

Thanks guys, didn't realise there was so many other locals. We go driving around the Chirnside park area Christmas light viewing every year and are never disappointed.

Battle79 I've seen the Oxley show, a mate of mine works at Oxley doing the show, his name is Luke but I didn't see him there this year.

Thanks for the manual; reading through it now to skill up on individually controlled RGB strips, so good!

Welcome to ACL, you already have a head start with being an electrician and working with automated systems, so this hobby is a great fit for you, Feel free to ask any questions you have.
