P12R with 9816 Chip

Hello everyone! I'm relatively new to the pixel world... Anyways, I'm looking at hacking some Gemmy Flex Tech strips and read that they have 9816 chips in them. I sent Ed and email asking if there was support for the 9816 chip by the P12R controller. He wanted me to ask on here if the 9816 chip is an "up and coming chip." Any thoughts on this subject would be greatly appreciated.

Right now, I think the Renard E68X is the only controller supporting that pixel type
