I'm after suggestions on how I can program my pixicles to look like icicles. My pixicles are 6 horizontal rows of 168 pixels (think 168*6 matrix), and I cant find an effect that will make them look like classic icicles of say 4, 5 and 6 lights high with 2 rows on, one fading out and one off, dancing across the house.

It should be able to be done, but I just cant work out how, so I'm open to suggestions please

You can see the effect about 24 seconds in at https://vimeo.com/114019048

I've been experimenting in xlights to see a way around your problem. I think the idea of a meteor effect would look cool but you probably want to have them acting like in your video.
As a test, I made a small matrix of twenty across by 6 down (see first pic below) vertical orientation in the model settings.
Then I made a custom model of icicles that spanned the same channel numbers as the matrix but in doing so I just left out the channel numbers in the grid (see pic 3) that i didn't want to light up so as to simulate a string of icicles. The custom model was made hastily but was 3,4,5,6,3,4,5,6 etc. I made that custom model be in the unassigned preview window so that it would not appear on the display window in the sequencer.
Then in the sequencer I applied a single strand effect to the custom model of the icicles so that the effect would then render on the matrix that was actually part of the display. The single strand effect had the settings as shown in picture 4. With the 3D fade ticked I thought it gave something similar to your video (hopefully ::) ).
Anyway, there may be a better way of doing it but this gives you a virtual custom model of icicles to render effects on the matrices you have on the eves that you can apply effects to and get (hopefully ) a variety of effects.
I have not tested this on an actual matrix as I don't have one. There maybe a quicker way of doing this but this appears to work in the sequencer anyway.
