You can still mix nodes and strip but they need to be all WS2801 or WS2811 and WS2812B. The WS2801 pixels are known to be more reliable than WS2811 if you want long spaces of wire between pixels because the data passed on by each pixel can travel further. WS2811 is usually cheaper and it only has 3 wires instead of 4 so there is less soldering and tangling. You can add a pixel in the middle of long spaces to interpret and pass on the data so it goes further. This is called using a null pixel and it is required more often with WS2811. [/QUOTE]
