Sequence opening blank.

I have a mature xlights sequence. When I open it on my main PC, it now opens a blank sequence.
I copied the .xsq to my Mac (where I also do sequencing) and it opens fine.
I am now noticing that other sequences on my main computer are also opening as blank sequences.

In one case I received a "fseq is missing" error message.

What can be causing this?

When moving the sequences back and forth to my mac, it is also crucial to move the associated fseq?

Finally, which file(s) or folder in the xlights dir represent the layout?

Update: I was able to get the sequence to load again by switching the show directory and then switching it back.
