I'm thinking about copying the idea of running lights through acrylic or plastic tubing to act as a light defuser. Just not sure how it will turn out considering the spacing of the LEDs. I'm using bigW light strings. Has any one done this? Not up the stage of using RGBs or pixels.

it works fine Lenny one thing you just have to try and do is to mount the leds to something to stop the LED touching the front side of the tube as it can cause a visual hot spot as you can see in this photo

If you can't find any tube. I still have some acrylic tube from the bulk buy.

I use strings of rgb fairy lights in my mega star on my carport. There are significant hotspots but I kinda like the effect. I'm just using tint tubes and I've made no effort to align the leds or anything. A very rough video I shot of it is below.

I've only done a quick sample using some 2 inch corogated water pipe that I had laying around. Slightly white in color. It gave me a general of what it will look like. Not sure if I like the hot spot but from a distance it really not that noticable. It will be a 8 metre mega tree with 32 strings. Not being lazy but definitely looking for the easier option.
