Switches and IGMP, E1.31 and stuff.

Linksys LGS308 is a nice cheap 8 port switch. Which is also 12V, so you can not use the power pack which comes with it, and use the same power supply you use for your lights.

More Detail.
Linksys LGS308 MANAGED Switch $100 plus (Managed switches are more expensive than unmanaged. Manage switches will general have a web interface)
  • IGMP Snooping - IGMP (v1/v2/v3) snooping provides for fast client joins and leaves of multicast streams and limits bandwidth-intensive video traffic to only the requestors; supports 256 multicast groups
  • Forwarding Rate - 11.90 Mpps

Multicast Group = 1 Universe. So the above switch would support 256 Universes.

I suggest people purchase a good Parent Switch (e.g. Falcon Play connects to this) , and maybe cheaper switches to connect into the Parent Switch if your spreading your switches around.

Another member (cdjazman) has found this, and was asking if it was OK
TP-Link TL-SG108 about $40
  • IGMP Snooping - Supported but no details are given
  • Forwarding Rate - 11.90 Mpps
Personal I would not purchase it, as it does not provide enough details in the spec sheet or user manual. Maybe email the vendor (not the re-seller)?
