I'm looking at the technicolor pixels from Ray Wu to place along my roof line. There are 12V and 5V versions.

The 5V version uses 5050 flat LEDs and the 12V version used 8mm round LEDs. The round LEDs would tend to radiate light all around, while the flat ones would shine more straight out. But with covers over them, how much difference would be noted?
Does any one have experience with these strings and how they look? I'm interested in the 5V model, but concerned the flat LED won't view well from a viewer looking more from a side angle than straight on.
