Hi all, I’m going to apologise in advance because I’m pretty sure I’m making a noob error.

I have created a matrix using some old led strips, the matrix is one long string of 612 pixels set up as 36 horizontal and 17 vertical.

In xlights I have it set as horizontal matrix, 1 string, 204 pixels 17 strands yet whenever I output via xlights 3 leds illuminate instead of 1.

I have deleted the model and redone it, I’ve used 2 different controllers yet the result is the same.
I know it has to be a configuration issue I just can’t find it.

Is the strip 12V strip?
If so, it's probably 3x LEDs for 1x control chip, and as such, should be a 12 x 17 matrix instead of 36x17

Yes they are 12v strips. By setting it as 204 leds and 17 strands/zig zags it is effectively making it a 12x17 isn’t it?

Correct.
The strips you have are not individually controllable. They work in banks of 3.
They have a one WS2811 driver, which controls 3 LEDs, wired in series, to give you the 12V. This means that they will always operate together.

Ah so I’m never going to get just one individual LED to illuminate then?

Are the break points to cut the strip every 3 LEDs?
And between those cut points is there 1 black chip with the 3 LEDs?
If yes, then you'll never get it individually operated.
