Does the ECG-P2 (and E1.31) support 25 msec updates? I have never seen this specified, although have heard other configurations doing a 50 msec update.

The ECG-P2 will support 25ms but this is dependant on certain factors. The type of IC used and the amount connected to one output will determine the refresh rate.

For example

A 3001 IC which is 3 wire and 12 bit, so being a 3 wire it means the data line must also contain the timining data, so the combination of both 12bit data and timing data would restrict the refresh rate and 25ms refresh rate using 4 universes of pixels from the one output would most probably struggle.
on the flip side a 6803 which is only 5 bit and has a clock wire and will easily run at 25ms with 4 universes of pixels from the same output.
The 2801 again has a dedicated clock wire and is 8 bit and this will work at 25ms with a 4 universes of pixels from the same output.
The 2811 is 8 bit and 3 wire and you may see some refresh rate issues if using 4 universes but from reports this is not the case and refresh rates seem good.

See the issue is that if the refresh rate drops on the data line then you may see a slight difference in timing from the begining of a string to the end if hooking up 4 universes of 3001 because of the amount of data required to be passed on by each pixel.
