So you should always check using a multimeter that the pins on the connectors match the wire colour whilst making cables. Then once you have that confirmed, I would create a reference guide for yourself to ensure every other connector and wire you use from now is the same. Colours of wires may change in the odd pigtail etc, but so long as the pins always line up, it should be fine.
