Over the last month there has been a noticeable amount of newcomers to the forum, with a variety of experience and backgrounds. I have also noticed a lot of excitement about what to buy for next year. WARNING- BE PATIENT 12 months is a long time in technology and lights and boards will change throughout the year. The 1st decision you probably need to make is what software you will use so you can layout your yard in a visualiser. There are 3 main options 1. Light O Rama 2. Light Show Pro 3. Vixen They all have free demo versions or a low cost base option There are a variety of opinions on each of these, personally I have used Light Show Pro for the last 2 years and this year is was great, but that is for you to decided. Once you have laid out your yard with what you want you will have a better idea what you need to buy. This is the next decision you need to make AC or DC. I am totally DC for safety reasons, I don’t need someone including me getting zapped also speaker wire is so much cheaper than extension cables The next issue is where to buy, Ebay always seems to be where new people head as they are not aware of the other options, the danger with Ebay is there are so many sellers and you really don’t know what you are getting. There are a few reputable Chinese companies that more experienced members have purchased lights from at very good rates that are low cost and good quality for what you pay. Remember for $4-$6 a string they won’t last a lifetime and you will have some failures. The main thing to remember is BE PATIENT it’s no good buying stuff that is cheap if you cant use it or it kills someone. There are plenty of people in chat and on the forums that can answer your questions. I hate seeing people log into chat in mid – late November with questions after they thought they had the right stuff only to realise it won’t work together and it’s too late to get the stuff they need. There is no such thing as a dumb question
The title of our introductory lighting manual contains a three digit number. What is that number? Clue: Display basics forum
