Wrapping Tree with RGB-yard

I have 2 trees in the front yard and I am looking for some tips to wrap them with smart
rgb pixels and what is the best way to approach the lighting layout, obviously the base is easy but once reaching branches and stems, how far does a guy go up and out especially with young trees and then programming these lights to get a decent transition? Any and all info and links would be appreciated!

I did this in my first year. It's only a small/medium tree. This is what it looks like. I have the core wrapped freehand and then another set of pixels draped through the branches.

It's nothing spectacular but it's come out alright.
