zig zag matrix

I am trying to do a zig zag effect with 2812 strips and wondered if it was possible to do that with the board or if it had to be done in the sequencing software? if on the board how do you do it?

That's Done in the Sequencing software.
Easy done in programs like LSP and Vixen.
I do believe that it may be possible in LOR by re-numbering the individual channels manually.

What software are you using?

i am using vixen 3. On my pixlite 16 board i can tell it to zig zag and the number of pixels and it works really well

most controllers will allow you to do zig zag at the controller level. This is easiest as your sequenceing is straight forward (appears as separate strings in the same order)
