Because mine are collapsible (The back legs fold up and the head comes off) I am noticing some rust on the hinge part of the legs, it's just 4mm rod through a steel pipe, so I think the water has gotten in and sat in there while in storage and with the movement of the legs folding them up each year the paint has come off and rust is forming, one of the reindeer was so jammed I had to spray with some wd40 to free it up so that part really needs re-doing. I have a sand blasting gun so might just do it myself on the bits that are bad.

Hey mate seriously dont over concern yourself definetly will not hurt too give the above mentioned areas a coat of paint and then thereafter before and after each season oil or grease areas and you will find they will outlast us ! Oil and grease is the best rustproofing although sometimes can be messy . Eg has anyone ever seen a greasy oily engine or similar rust ?

When I started looking into pixels in December of 2016 my significant other said (after the last motorized reindeer bit the dust) "I don't care what you do as long as I get my reindeer"... This is very helpful!

Haha yes I totally understand swb as is my crazy light lady's idea ! But has worked out well and they look better than I could of imagined . Over the years we have fixed these Reindeers many times few are motorized ! And we have just kept replacing the led lights .

Reindeers are up and running been for couple of weeks now very very happy with the results looks amazing especially with effects I have used on xlights.! Front reindeer Rudolph has got his red nose now ping pong ball 5mm hole red led appropriate resistor hard wired to 12v from a power injection point works great as his nose always needs to be lit . built a simple frame too sit Reindeers on to simulate takeoff and raised front of the sleigh just sitting on couple of bricks at moment but plan too make a little stand underneath invisible too audience . I will take some video too share but at moment been told off by crazy light lady for testing lights too much before show starts on 18th of nov (but she has to go out or sleep at sometime lol )in photo rudolph nose don't look real red but trust me certainly is . 20171107_123706.jpg

They look great. I am not going to let the missus see them or I will be hounded until I do them too.
I have just made plywood cutouts for reindeer and it is the wife's job to paint them, she gets 2 per year and I haven't made this years ones yet  (we are only up to 4)
The only thing I see you need to do is outline the sleigh with some lights. (I haven't so no pressure)
I did notice your front yard looks remarkably like it was designed with xmas in mind though.
I had 8 fruit trees in the front yard and 3 flower beds, now because of xmas, I have a rock water feature, some crushed limestone and bluemetal.

Ive also had bit of spare time to pimp the sleigh a little bit. This includes a stainless steel dash I have made with some old car guages had lying around put leds in them hard wired to 12v also a number plate and frame with hidden led to illuminate. Also leftover 2811 nodes from Reindeers are underneath front and rear top cavity hidden well and not getting carried away with effects yet anyway but ! Have made them scroll from left too right in red similar too kitt knight rider car ! and then ive put 2 nodes in each exhaust set on candle effect and set to my liking ! then put cellophane from flowers (best money spent on flowers for grovelling ever lol) cut into 2 equal sizes into exhaust pipes extruding out so light comes out of pipes actually looks like real flames was very happy with my efforts especially when I took photos and showed my adult children and their reply was does mum know you have done this and that can't be safe dad ! As they believed it was true fire !
And yes I know santas sleigh shouldn't have exhausts with flames or knightrider lights and car guages but couldn't help myself ! being a car person .10341.jpegi have modified the cellophane since to look more realistic on both exhausts 20171107_123725.jpg

Thanks scamp and yes front yard was done around xmas lights crazylightladys plan as we used to have beautiful lawn roses etc then goverment gave us water restrictions and increased price of water enormously so no more mowing watering fertilizing for me but wish i had laid a few bits of conduit and wires underneath had planned but never did still can but will I ?

I think the kids are going to love the new modifications, Santa can have whatever he wants on his sleigh. :)

I love the little extras. I have the sleigh in the workshop at the moment ready to make some mods before it goes out this xmas, and you have given me some ideas. Thanks.
