Nice work! Thank you for the referral...

Silly Question Time: what size shrink tube do you use for pixel strips?

I realise that you won't need it for the nodes, but what size do you guys use for what??

Thinking about:
1) solder joints;
2) Improving the IP rating of a pixel strips; etc

I was getting it local from Jaycar and local electrical suppliers but then as I was going through so much, I decided to order from Aliexpress, I got around 40m of the stuff for the same price I got 4m.
I shouldn't run out any time soon

Haha, I was after a size ... not the length... sorry. But I can see the advantage in getting it in bulk!

Hi El & Sal,
The average shrink ratio is 2:1, so choose a size almost double the size of the wire insulation. When I buy heatshink I usually end up buying lengths of multiple sizes. My preference is glue lined tube as it prevents ingress of moisture.

Hope this helps

Thx diyer, yer it does! Been meant by to go back and correct or specify my question - my son is looking to put some LED strips onto his car with a bluetooth Christmas loud controller ... first car! What can I say...

Anyhoo, he bought some IP65 strip and wants to put some underneath (legally)... so thinking to get clear heatshrink to “add” some weather protection...
the strips are approx. 12.5mm wide so wanted to get a handle on which to choose.

I picked up the hint about the ‘glue-lined’ tube but was uncertain as to the right way to measure the heat shrink.
EG: get some heat shrink that will shrink to 12.5mm or one that goes beyond the LEDs size, i.e.:10mm...

If that makes sense?!?

Sorry, I didn't even see your comment when I replied to the thread. (I was still on the first page)
I ordered 3mm for the individual wires and 5mm for the sealing of the whole wire.
And I just checked, I got 100m for $16au

Yep. I plan way ahead. I know my supplier is cheap, the product quality is excellent and the delivery will take about a month.
I just work on other projects till the heatshrink and anything else on order arrives and then I start on it once I have confirmed that I have everything I need.
I no longer calculate how much I need. the product is cheap enough to purchase by the roll and to have on hand.
I have now narrowed everything down to three sizes of heat shrink at 4:1 shrink ratio and use nothing but the resin filled.

Hey. Can you share the link of your supplier please?
