    3D printed the first prop

Printed a little forest to outline some ground level real estate. Did a 3, 5, 8 rotation on the stakes. I think this may be enough.

    Dimensions in XLights

I was messing around in 3D today (at the hospital so I have lots of free time) and came across the grid size metric in the left panel. Of course that can be scaled up or down as needed. So if I match up the width of the house .obj with the grid I'll have all of my X and Y coordinates down. I...

    Dimensions in XLights

I've almost got my house into a 3D model and am going to start a layout in XLights. I know it's going to be a bit of a pain (Xlights isn't really a 3D modeling software) but given the VERY wide and deep nature of my property it just feels like it'll render better and more accurately in 3D. I...

    3D printed the first prop

12V. I've got a larger property with some longer runs, so 12V seemed the safer choice.

New to xLights - "Display Test" help

@Skymaster - #2 did the trick. I had UDP set to all in the FPP menu. Must have missed in the tutorials I watched that the Enable box needed checked in the Inputs of FPP. Live and learn... everything is working now!

New to xLights - "Display Test" help

That works, but I'm trying to set things up the way I'll be using the system come November. I'm fairly certain I'm 95% of the way there and a check box or two that I've missed will fix it. @Skymaster - I'll try that when I'm home from church. Grandmother is turning 94 today so gotta take her...

New to xLights - "Display Test" help

So I got tired of pushing pixels today and got back into the software side of this hobby. I have my Falcon F16 setup in xLights and have it configured as a proxy in my FPP Pi4 instance so that xLights can see it, open the controller interface, and upload outputs to the F16. I made a simple...

    3D printed the first prop

Started printing some arch mounts from SFL. They've got some decent design for PEX and PVC.

Appropriate wire for splices and xConnect runs?

Yes it was always like that growing up, but in 2017 I think they realized they could generate a ton of tax revenue and opened things up to all but commercial grade. Tax on fireworks totals about 20%... government says it's necessary to pay for fire departments, etc.. 90% of the state is rural...

Appropriate wire for splices and xConnect runs?

Ha! Well at the 4th we have 100 over and set off a 15 minute fireworks show. Here in PA we can buy up to 500 gram cakes and its been a tradition since COVID canceled all the 4th shows that I put on fireworks here 🙃

Appropriate wire for splices and xConnect runs?

Well that is something I'll test when it's a little warmer outside and I can setup a mock display to start testing some things out. Since this is my first year with programmable lights I won't be waiting until November to figure out these details. I'd try to do some testing indoors, but I...

Appropriate wire for splices and xConnect runs?

I'm sure there's a million answers to what wires are "appropriate" for 12V lights. I was given a 250ft spool of Syston QSH-CBL-M wire which is a 16AWG pair with a 22AWG pair. Question, this seems to me like a perfect fit for 12V light runs (thicker for power, 22AWG retains data better) whether...

Help me plan a new layout - Will show off the results in November!

@Indigogyre Yes I was thinking this as well. There are some cool effects out there with either Peace Stakes or a Pixel Forest. With such a large area I'd make a couple of frames that had all the Stakes or Trees installed on it and I could just move into place 12'x12' (or larger) platforms...

Help me plan a new layout - Will show off the results in November!

@merryoncherry - Very nice ideas. I have a feeling by the time November gets here I'll have somewhere between #2 and #3. I would like to get a mega tree up as there's just so much "Wow" factor you can add with something that large and dense. I already have 2 cemented in-ground sleeves that...

Help me plan a new layout - Will show off the results in November!

Technically those are 10 props 😀 3ft high for each. I know what I'm doing tomorrow! Probably going to have to print some supports so I can reinforce these with pvc or emt. First though, we'll put some pixels in them 😀
