Well that is something I'll test when it's a little warmer outside and I can setup a mock display to start testing some things out. Since this is my first year with programmable lights I won't be waiting until November to figure out these details.
I'd try to do some testing indoors, but I...
I'm sure there's a million answers to what wires are "appropriate" for 12V lights. I was given a 250ft spool of Syston QSH-CBL-M wire which is a 16AWG pair with a 22AWG pair.
Question, this seems to me like a perfect fit for 12V light runs (thicker for power, 22AWG retains data better) whether...
@Indigogyre Yes I was thinking this as well. There are some cool effects out there with either Peace Stakes or a Pixel Forest. With such a large area I'd make a couple of frames that had all the Stakes or Trees installed on it and I could just move into place 12'x12' (or larger) platforms...
@merryoncherry - Very nice ideas. I have a feeling by the time November gets here I'll have somewhere between #2 and #3. I would like to get a mega tree up as there's just so much "Wow" factor you can add with something that large and dense. I already have 2 cemented in-ground sleeves that...
Technically those are 10 props 😀 3ft high for each.
I know what I'm doing tomorrow! Probably going to have to print some supports so I can reinforce these with pvc or emt. First though, we'll put some pixels in them 😀
Disney used to do a drone show over the lake at Disney Springs. It was a precursor for the drones that are coming to Epcot soon. That being said, Disney spent well north of $1M on this show alone is investing tens of millions in the technology in upcoming years. Cool? Absolutely! Feasible...
There it is with pixels. I'm looking forward to my pixel pliers arriving today! Pushing thousands of pixels by hand is a good way to get blisters, especially with the dry air of winter!
I will be keeping the existing, but they may have a new place on the farm next year. The icicle lights must stay outlining the roof and dormers, but virtually everything else can be moved to the barn, stable, and 5 acres of land behind the house.
Indo have Lutron Caseta outdoor plugs so I can...
I've always done a large Christmas light display, but it's always been regular LEDs and nothing like addressable pixels.
I've jumped in head first this year though and have a F16 and 3,000 bullets to start. Some Chroma Trees are coming from Boscoyo on Thursday and I'm 3D printing snowflakes to...
ASA would be even better if you have an enclosed printer (dont print if open to the air, toxic fumes will result). Thats what I usually use for outdoor parts, but PETG was so cheap, it'll do.
Got a great deal on some PETG which made it economical to print props! I have a bunch of Boscoyo coro props coming Thursday, but Im also printing 5 or 6 of these 24" snowflakes (100 nodes per).
Not bad for 6 hours (on 3 X1s) and $4 worth of PETG.
Out of an abundance of caution, I'm just going to run 2 cords. This F16 will have many thousand pixels running off this box so no need to tempt a wire into overheating.
Kind of wishing I went with the next size up for enclosures. After 2 PSUs, F16, Pi4, and pigtails there's not much room left...
Mmk, so another noob question so I get this right the first time.
2nd PSU came today so Im going to run ports 1-8 off one psu and 9-16 off the other (power injection from each PSU will stay on its respective side).
For wiring the PSUs to AC is it safest to just wire two AC cords or do folks...
