    2 wire strings?

Thanks for confirming my hunch that I won't be expanding this year. Probably a good thing in light of the investment of dmx board, PSU, dc-dc booster because I got the wrong PSU and the cheapest dmx dongle I could find (another faux pas). Only to discover pixels after I ordered all this. Better...

    2 wire strings?

Just been around the stores, it looks like no one stocks the 3 wire strings anymore. And from what I understand the new 2 wire systems are a whole lot of trouble? So... does anyone have a link to how these are wired, and how to adapt them to dmx controllers? Or should I flag the...

    cat 5 extension lead?

Just wondering if anyone has tried running strings of 'big W' lights over a cat 5 cable? I'm looking to get a few strings 15m away from the controller, thinking this might be a legitimate multicore extension?

I managed to push 30V through the board, It didn't go bang... ;D "option 2" worked well, again no bangs!

I think I'm going to go for 'option 2', which is what I was alluding to in my previous post. From what I can see the Mosfets can take up to 60V so no problems there. There is the risk in the voltage straying into the rest of the board, but I'll just have to take that risk. I've got a DC-DC...

Great, I am now assuming/hoping that this board is following the convention with pwm. This board came with instructions for 5v lights, with a 5V and 12V for the board. the negatives are joined but the 5V +ve bypasses the board to the common on the string. My question is if this might work...

    long strings

Thanks for all the help. I've asked the question of the supplier, he's said they would test it with a higher voltage and get back to me asap... still waiting. I've gone ahead and ordered a 36V supply anyway, because I will need one unless anyone can give me a simple circuit to boost 24VDC...

    Different Voltage on Power Packs

Just a quick note. I'm new to this as well. And made a few rookie mistakes in buying power supplies, dmx boards and a dongle. I got the it all from china, and not from anyone here (silly move on hindsight) Good work on checking the voltages before starting! I'm paying for not doing this off the...

The controller is a 30 channel 12-24v from oasis technology co. I bought it on aliexpress. Apparently good for 2A a channel.

    No they're all 3 wires.

None of the original supplies are giving any AC, so we can put that one to bed. The original supplies are labelled as 31V. but now you mention the pulsating voltage it makes a lot more sense. My controller is rated at for a max of 24V, and passes whatever I put in straight through to the...

OK. That's a bit of help. I'm surprised that the voltage could be the issue as the original PSUs/controllers drop well below the 24v mark when going through its fade. These are the generic led strings from the warehouse or mitre 10. And seem to be the same found in any store, bunnings dick...

    long strings

I'm just getting started on automating my lights, but I've found that the long 250 led strings aren't working the way I'd expect. the majority of the lights are only very dimly lit, and the end sections are bright. the strings don't have any breaks, and work fine on the original psu. my new PSU...
