Hello everyone. Hope your Halloween shows are going strong. I have a differential receiver that has a bad network/ethernet/RJ45 port. It’s not a big deal because the other one works fine. I think it just got corroded in storage. I’ll make sure to add a little dielectric grease to the pins this year before they get put away. But my question is, can I just buy a new port and solder it in place. I’m sure that’s possible but I didn’t know if there has to be a specific type of port or are they one size fits all. I saw some on amazon but not sure if the pins are all in the same place. I’d look but my show is currently running and I don’t want to tempt fate by messing with it.

Yes you can, ideally you'd get the same part as the pins may be physically in different spots or dimension.

That being said, with a smart receiver (as long as it's not a V5 receiver) you can always just use an RJ45 splitter, because the two ports are just passive on the device itself.

Make sure it's straight thru-wiring, 1-1, 2-2 - etc - and not one that allows you to run two 100Mb ethernets down a single cable (these split the four pairs, two each to two sockets, not a splitter)

I did, it didn’t help. Sorry I should have said that. I used some contact cleaner and a scotch bright pad hoping to rub it off.
if its just corroded, try some contact cleaner or deoxit

I hadn’t thought of a splitter. Good idea. Honestly I just wanted to practice my soldering skills and try to fix it. I get a kick out of learning that kind of stuff.
