I'm curious what the rough expected lifespan is of pixels (in my case seed pixels) or what percentage you'd expect to replace per year?

Too early to tell for seed pixels, clear wire much less than black wire is what we know so far.

The seed pixels i've had up for over 4 months over summer so far are 100% working, no issues here. I left a set out over winter post 2023 christmas light show packdown, and they're still going strong

Some of the pixels in my setup are going strong still from 2012/13

Just had one prop of pixels (99) go the other night after six years of use
There is a direct short some where in the string so I have replaced the lot and ordered some more from https://www.lightitupleds-xmas.com.au as they are now my go to supplier as I used to order from overseas
Have had a few in the past go but not more than 3% per year that I could just replace two and get back working as you can tell where they stop working but with the short blowing the fuse I had no idea which one as they have all discoloured over the years

No seed pixels here, have enough problems without looking for them. 40K+ nodes 4-9 seasons on them with less than 5 bad pixels a year. Too early too know on seeds but based upon pics of them I wouldn't touch them

Don't have seed pixels either. Just 12mm resistor bullets running 12v and had to replace maybe 6 over the last 4 years. 3 did not pass data, 2 that only turned red and one was off but still passed data (strange!) Have close to 10K pixels

No way of knowing. Have some clear wire 5V seed pixels on year 3 that are fine, but most of them are much newer (16k in little trees have been going fine for all of October + first week of November) , and they come in so many varieties, and subjected to so many climates and various build conditions. So, Daryl's right of course, too soon to tell. Join the rest of us, pay your money and take your chances ;-).

Like others, it seems like the bullets might drop at a rate of 1 per 10,000, maybe even less after the first year, but that excludes the terrible batches I got in 2022. And a lot of the time, the ones that die are clustered in strings. Always check the string to see if it's the first repair, if not just swap the whole thing.

Already I'm sold :)

just repaired one of the bunnings strings of lights with zero protection and I'd estimate of the 500 on the string around 20 had to be replaced (on year 5 I'd estimate)

About as good as store bought Bunnings type lights.
My mega tree has been fine, but the 'first generation' seed pixel it uses I find are more robust than current market ones.
But that said, I guess you'd get 5 seasons out of them if you take care.

I also have only just put out my first seeds, well my second seeds, my first seeds are still on their rolls in the garage after 2 years because 10cm spacing. I know my 12mm pixels seem to give me 3-4 seasons when they're good... 5-10 days when they're bad... A little disappointed that my first set of 12mm pixels started failing last year (mostly cos they're all in high places like the star on the megatree) but the pixels I bought in my second year started failing almost immediately.
