One more question, do you recall which controller was the one that flamed out? Was it the P9828M? The reason I ask is I noticed in your photo that the P9828M pixel is missing the ceramic capacitor. The "features" listed in the link earlier in the thread imply the controller has an internal LDO instead of shunt regulator so a series resistor is not required. But, you would still require a capacitor and by extension, you would want to keep the series resistor in case the capacitor failed. So I was wondering if the removal of the capacitor eliminates suppression of voltage transients that are inducing defects?

the ic on my pyro pixel was "TX5803A CD2272" and i think that is the same as the p9828.
this picture is the pixel next to the pyro pixel so its the same string/pixels etc.

they all ran fine for 2 seasons and on the 3rd season one combusted.
all up there were about 500 of these in the entire merry christmas sign and i did notice for about 3 years the same 4 pixels had a slight red glow when nothing was playing but power was on.
the pyro pixel was not one of those 4.
on the night of the failure the show had been running for about 2 hours with no indication anything was wrong and then i could start to smell it.

my entire setup powers off when not running so there is no power to anything, it automatically powers on, waits 5 minutes then begins and runs for 4 hours then stops, waits 5 minutes then powers off everything.

the guy i purchased them from was a member here and he had the same pixels catch on fire but i am not sure which ic was the cause but they were all the same 3 color wire cheap pixels.
all of the pixels in the picture i took in the other post were the mix of them all that i got from him so his fire could have been either ic but it definitely was not a worldsemi ic

this is what i ended up doing with them all
