12v vs 5v strands

What is the main difference between a 12v and 5v pixel strand? Just Trying to figure out which 1 would be best for me.

pixel strip have 5v and 12v, the different is :

5v : 1 led 1 indifity IC
12v: 3 led a group, i griup 1 IC

not 100% correct earnest.

Strings can come in 12v also.

im thinking that with these 12v pixels, they will generate alot more heat then the 5v versions
