240v power sockets for inside enclosure.

Just after some advice from people on the know. (sparky style)

Have made and enclosure for power injection.
What I want to do is have a connector inside the enclosure so that I can disconnect and pull out the power supplies if any work / replacement needs to be done.

Thoughts are to put a three pin female pigtail from the power supply and connect the male end to the power cable that goes to the 240v wall plug.

Has anyone used this method or can tell me why I should not do it that way?

Just put a 3 pin male on the power supply so it's like any other piece of electrical equipment then use a regular extension board back to the wall. This would need to be done by an electrician.

If by pigtail you mean Ray Wu or other type pigtail that we use for pixel conncetions etc, then I would absolutely not do this, they are unlikely to rated to be used for 230v applications in Australia.
 
I'm sort of confused on what you're asking?
Are you just wanting an AU mains plug per power supply or something?

Have a mains AU plug per power supply then use a plug board, that allows for swapping power supplies.


And as said above;
What ever the <bleep> you do; Do Not Use Ray Wu, xConnect, etc pigtails for mains!!!
 
Yes I mean a Ray Wu pigtail. See rough drawing...and I mean rough :):):):):)

no way are rays pig tails rated for 230v mains. Sorry buddy but that seems like the Ergon Llama........ Death :(

I was wanting to add an option to "quick disconnect" if i wanted to take the base plate out without unscrewing the power supply.

So you want a connector for [230v in] and a connector for [12v out] per power supply.

I recon you're better off with standard mains AU plugs per power supply into a multi board.
Then a high current rated connector from the power supply to connection block for 12v.

Have both connectors different so you do not accidentally plug 230v into your pixels!

They're not waterproof but they're rated for mains. Have the connections inside the watertight box.

Yeah they look perfect. Connection would be inside the enclosure.
 
if your wanting waterproof, interlocking, 240v mains plugs/connectors..
you cant beat the Neutrik Power Connectors range
 
Few things people are suggesting too;

Have some sort of cable strain relief for the cord coming into the box. Like a Pg8 wire gland or something.
Means if you accidentally pull the cord it will not pull the connections inside and also saves the metal box piecing the wires coating.
