Big W equivalent strings

Are we looking at 100 LED ; single channel ; 10 M ; 24 volt DC sets for around $6 landed in Brissie. If the quality is good I'd be interested in
10 sets Red
10 sets Green
10 sets Blue
10 sets Cool White

Thanks

hey all,
just letting you all know that I received my sample string today. I have had a quick visual inspection of them and also connected to my 30v LOR controller. all looks very good and has so far exceeded my expectation. I will be taking the string to Steve (aka superman) in the next few day to give them a real good testing on different voltages and test the current draw for Geoff. String configuration has roughly the same spacing as the Big W stuff as expected but these strings have been wired as a single channel unlike the big W stuff which has 2. this doesn't bother me too much but I thought I should let you know the preliminary look over. all in all I think we might have a GO.
I will keep you all posted on how I go at Steve's. I took some pics so you can get an idea.

When are you going to take these around to Steves?? I might have to pop around and take a look at these myself.
your 2 hours too late. :D I went there this afternoon. we have tested the lights at a few voltages. Steve has some pics from the benchtop supply with current vs voltage outputs, once I get the pics from him I will post them. If I remember correctly 24v was drawing 0.02amps. they went out at 18v and we maxed the supply at 32.5v. brightness was comparable to Big W at similar voltages. You know you could always come here if you really want to see them in person. 8)

Did your sample set light up nicely at the stated 24v level or did it (like the majority of MF-removed strings) need more volts in the 27v+ range to get full brightness? I've currently got a number of true 24v DC strings (regardless of colour) via an Adelaide Christmas store - but no more can be sourced as they've changed suppliers.

Is there any lead cable (local strings typically come with 10 metres) and does it come with a connector (e.g. 2.1mm plug) or bare wire?

Depending on more info, I'm maybe looking at the following in 10mtr/96-100L with dark cable (black/green/etc):
2x cool white
2x red
1x blue
1x green

Having heard that the strings still require more volts (27v), I'll withdraw from this interest post.

I'm assuming the $6 cost is probably for the blue/white's, with red and possibly green being a little cheaper.

Oh and as a side note, the "decor ball series" strings look a bit like the RGB dumb strings I've got via another ACL member, only in a single colour - wonder if they do them in (dumb) RGB too?

Steve and I found these strings to be very similar to big W strings. build quality is good and they required 27v+ for full brightness. At this cost there is no lead in cable, no connectors just bare wire. all strings cost roughly $6 landed in Brisbane.

price per string before postage as follows
10m all colours other than purple and warm white are $4.20
warm white and purple are $5.20
if we get over 1000 strings the price reduces to $3.90 per string other than purple and warm white.
supplier is willing to send multiple string colours
freight is $308.32 per 150 strings via DHL
so per string will be $6.30 + shipping from Brisbane to your location

Sorry I forgot to mention that the supplier takes 4 days to manufacture and 3-4 days freight so these strings could be here very quickly after placing the order. under 2 weeks.

I'm kinda with Ryan. I'm looking for strings that are 24V not 32V which is probably what you were after as replacement Big W strings. A lead wire would be sweet too as it is relatively painfully slow adding the wires, heatshrinking etc each of the strings when the supplier probably will do it for under $1 per string.
Did anyone find an actual link to these on the site as based on the photos they look like decent ones?

I can certainly ask price difference for adding a lead cable. If most of us would prefer with the lead jut let me know and we will order with lead in. The voltage vs brightness was very much the same as big W. 24v was ok and it is what the manufacturer recommended I just prefer them to be bright.

Would everyone prefer lead in?

I'm in for 6 x multi colour at the moment. By the time you're ready to order that will probably double or quadruple. I'm happy without lead-in as I will be using different lengths anyway, but more than happy to go along with majority either way.

The sample i ordered should arrive tomorrow I will tell you how it looks. I would prefer a lead in as it could save more time. A good lead in length would probably be 5 meters. What does everyone else think?

Cheers
