Built-in DMX Skull model will not animate in Preview (DMX Servo model works correctly)

Hi everyone,

I'm hoping someone can confirm whether the built-in DMX Skull model is still working correctly in the current version of xLights.

I'm following Lee's tutorial:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BHFEpU0qlv8

I've watched it several times and even copied out the transcript so I could reproduce the setup as closely as possible.

Here's what I've verified:

  • Running the current version of xLights on Windows.
  • The DMX Servo model works perfectly.
  • The Servo effect animates the virtual servo horn correctly.
  • The DMX channel mapping is correct.
  • I've deleted everything and recreated the models from scratch several times.
  • I've also tested the DMX Skull completely independently (not chained to the servo model).
  • I've tried controlling the jaw directly using the Preview DMX sliders.
  • I've tried both Translate Y and Translate Z.
  • I've tried positive and negative Range of Motion values.
  • I've matched the tutorial settings as closely as possible.

The strange part is that the built-in DMX Skull model never animates.

Even when I manually move the DMX sliders in Preview, the jaw never moves. The servo model responds exactly as expected, but the skull remains completely static.

At this stage I'm not trying to drive any real hardware. I'm simply trying to get the built-in skull to animate inside xLights.

Has anyone using a recent version of xLights confirmed that the built-in DMX Skull model is still working?

If it is, could you please let me know:

  • Which xLights version you're using.
  • Whether the jaw responds to the Preview DMX sliders.
  • Whether there are any additional settings required that aren't shown in Lee's tutorial.

I'm trying to determine whether this is:

  • a configuration mistake on my part,
  • a regression in newer versions of xLights,
  • or a known issue with the DMX Skull model.

Thanks in advance.
