I'm interested in how many members are using the C9 covers with their pixels or even the "dumb" nodes.

Are you using them in the vertical or horizontal position?

How does the brightness compare to a typical C9 dimmable LED with the 5 leds?

Any pictures or videos in either or both positions would be great.

Hi,

I have about 7,000 of these

They look great. I use them for roof elements and my megatree. At a distance they glow nicely and are more visible than the regular pixel. I was going to buy traditional C9 spools and use LED replacement but the main reason I chose LED strings was the spacing - traditional C9s were 12 inch spacing whereas the Ray LED strings are 3 inch.

. Ray will also glue them onto the strings for you. The only issue I've got is they are very heavy. My roof sections are strings cable tied to PVC conduit. Sometimes the C9s "droop" a bit so if you want perfect straight lines they aren't a good choice.

Some photos are here - specifically megatree, the roof outline and the long fence capping toward the left.

I have got them on my spiral tree to stop water getting in to the pixels through the front. They are meant to be vertical but their weight drags them down.
I don't think they effect the brightness and they improve the look I think.
I am pulling down today but will leave the tree assembled and get some photos for you.

Sorry Dave, I found that I had packed the power supply for the tree away in the roof. I away on holidays now but will be able to post the pics next week.

Hi Donny,

Thanks for the video, they look pretty bright in the vertical position.
Now more questions.
voltage 5 or 12
chip type

Just watched all four of your 2012 video, great job. Can you tell me where are you utilizing the covers in your display?

Thanks
Dave

2801 pixels, 5V. I didn't end up using them in my display. Ran out of time! They really look nice, and they diffuse the light nicely.

WOW, I would have sworn that your 2D tree pixels had covers on them.

What is your pixel spacing on the tree and around your windows

Spacing is 4" on the tree and 2 1/2" everywhere else.

Donnie

What are the two (assume two) levels of intensity that you are using. The pixels around your windows are visible on an individual basis at a lower level and then blend into one continuous light stream

All the same level! Maybe just the depth perception making it look different!
