Putting up a smaller mega tree (13 feet tall including star at top ) and was wondering what size cable to use for the guy wires
Also, has anyone used a strong type of rope instead of wire cable ?

Pretty sure I have 4mm steel wire with some sort of covering over it to protect it. I used ropes once, and they were useless. Found one on the ground, it had broken at the top.

Technically (?) it isn't the size of the wire but it is the burst strength. With that said, our 1/4" has been working just fine on our trees (and other props) that are the size that you mentioned. The 1/4" rope we have has a working load of 1400 lb. Overkill, but we just use the same across all devices, especially our 26' tall Sasquatch tree. Lots of strips and lots of wind coming up the valley behind our dam.
