Car counting

Last year we wondered how many hundreds of cars had come to see our lights and I have been looking for a way to count them automatically, but cheaply. At last I found the way. An old webcam in the bedroom window and free software called "camlytics". Easy to use and fascinating results. Let me know if anyone else has tried it.

I personally have not used that software. However I use ispy connect with the LPR (license plate recognition) plugin to log daily number plates in my street which I accomplish with a high Megapixel / High resolution IP security camera. This way I can easily tell if they are re-occurring visitors or new ones. I don't have this setup directly for my lights but we are a dead end street and we all know each other well so its peace of mind in case something happens.
