Eddy,

Good find and research on these nodes.

How waterproof are these nodes?

I Will buy a sample of each in the next week or two unless someone beats me to it and post my results up.

This looks like a cheap option for the RPM pixel strings which are approx $100 for 42 nodes so that's a great saving

Stay tuned more info on this to come

Thanks for doing this Eddy. This is exactly what I've been looking for as I really wanted to purchase some of JEC and MPH's RGB strings but couldn't justify the cost. I can't wait to see your results.

I did a quick look at the string and it looks great.. Hope your tests of it proove that it is a great find... shipping another story... the default shipping selection resulted in $117 to ship one string to the US.. I didn't see a way to change the selection.

ups saver (2-3 day) worked out at $57 for 100 nodes, controller and psu

I guess thats just one of the costs that we have to bear when ordering product, even in the US.

Before I order three 6803 strips and the LT-DMX-6803 controllers - I just wanted to confirm that there are no known problems with individual addressing on these strips. MPH seems to indicate that while they make seem to work, you'll have problems with them locking up:

I'm wondering if anyone has run regular sequences from something like LSP through them to give them a "workout" to see if this hanging starts to appear.

Much thanks!

David,

The 6803 IC has been tested with the strings by a few members, there has been no reports of lockups when putting a mobile phone next to the the strings and also they have been ran through an LSP sequence with no issues. The strips use the same IC chip as the strings so i would think that you should have no issues with the strip

Hi,
I was told is better to go to with WS2801 chip than 6803.... 8 bit better than 5 bit resolution.

Some comments about?

Cheers... Henri

I agree the WS2801 is better and are only a few cents more per IC chip so the cost of the strip shouldnt be too much more than the 6803
Last time i spoke to Ray he was unable to source the WS2801 strip, but i will try him again when im ready to buy some pixel strip as the WS2801 is what i would prefer.

Thanks,
I'm trying to chase this chip too from a friend in China too on (DIP14 or SOP14) package....
More Asap....

Will be interesting to have the price of the chip alone and evaluate pricing by qty...

Cheers, Henri

The chip can already be sourced from Ray Wu, Smartalec was able to get them for around the 19/20 cent mark each.

Ray has put up the WS2801 IC 8 bit controlled 5050 SMD RGB digital Pixel strip on his site. This has a higher LED count per metre than the CCR (36 p/m compared to 30 p/m) and comes in either a 5 metre roll or in 1 metre aluminium backed lengths with plugs
