Answered Chopping or Adding to Pixel Strings

Is there any reason that I can't cut excess pixels from one string and add them to another? Assuming I manage my power requirements correctly.

And remember that they are directional. They either have DI (Data In) DO (Data Out) or an Arrow printed on the circuit board.

I seem to recall a previous thread where a problem was encountered when the IC type changed even though their protocols were identical or nearly identical. For example a WS2812 to a WS2811.

Also just be aware some manufacturers use different batches of LED's which can result is some slight colour variations. This isnt a big issue for some props like house outlines, low density props, but with say a Matrix / High Density prop you may notice the difference.

I try to keep off cuts of pixels from the same order in separate bags in case i need to replace a faulty one.

Also note some 12v pixels have resisters and others have regulators, whilst will prob all work ok, maybe not best practice to mix and match these
