Even I'm not sure where to post this one but the make videos and place them on YouTube bug has struck....

The idea is to do a range of videos from the basics to deep dives and maybe the odd rambling vblog.

If i need to split this thread up we might, lets see what happens.

First up today was a look at just how much current can 1.5M (15 pixels worth) of 20CWG pixel wire carry and what happens when you short it out.
A 10A auto rest breaker was used inline as well, voltage was set at 5v

In chat I was then asked was there a difference with 12v so the same basic setup was used to get this video

Without spoiling things to much it became quite clear that 5v and 12v strings should absolutely be discussed differently especially with respect to short circuits and the potential for issues. (fires etc)

Cheers

Don't forget we have a dedicated media section as well 😉 . Each video can be a separate media item so that they show up separately in searches (here and in search engines). Add them into a media category or create your own album.
Thanks Ryan,
I haven't played with the media section before so once i sort some broad categories such as 101/deep dive/vblog I'll set up or use media.
Cheers

I've been going to do these sort of videos as well but have never gotten around to it. A thermal camera, some decent editing skills and a good camera presence are all stopping me from doing the same sort of thing.

New video is up - Just how good is solar DC cable... actually voltage drop measurements from 1A to 60A
Cable tested was 4mm sq
Length tested 1 metre
it was tested at 5v to get the 60A of current, i do not have a 60A 12v supply on the bench
The reality is the voltage is not relevant for measuring the loss.
Cheers

Looks like we will bounce around a bit, tonight I recorded two videos.
The first was about the basics of identifying and testing a string with the equipment I use. String used was a very old 2801 string likely from 2010
The second was taking advantage of the short section of pixels to demonstrate and discuss why the input voltage to the string matters. It is a small dive into some of the technicalities of the hobby. It also talks about why the current/voltage drop calculators are wrong.

This thread is very old. An answer might not be needed anymore.
