LED Pixel Modules from YDS

I'd like to get feedback from anyone that has experience with these pixel 30mm modules from YDS that use the SD600 chip:

A few of the questions I have are - How is the quality? Is there another source (I've got an email into Ray asking if he can source these) for them? Any close-up photos of them?

Feedback from others indicates that the YDS pixel quality is lacking. Several of the strings were non-functional. So, it looks like it would be better to stay away from these SD600 pixels from YDS, ordered via Ray or Qu Xiaorui:

In this video posted by Tabor: TP3212 Testing you can see these SD600s at the bottom in the video. The string is spliced in the middle with the wider spaced pixels having been ordered from Qu and the closer spaced pixels from Ray Wu - though both are from YDS.

There are efforts underway to get 30mm pixel modules from ledwalker for testing that contain 6803 chips instead. These are rumored to be about $1.20 per pixel in 30mm. Stay tuned!
 
Dave, I've ordered the TP3212 also. (this is actually all in planning for next year's display, not this year's)

The way I read the material is that a single TP3212 could control 4 of the SD600 pixel strings, 4 of the 6803 strings or 2 of each? Is that close to correct? I have nothing in hand to verify with. :(

The TP3212 will run 170 pixel of 2 different protocol strings. In the video he is running 2 strings. It will handle like Ten 16 count strings and 10 more pixels.

We are now waiting for samples of some 6803 pixels (similar to ff pixels) from a couple different manufactures and if they work out will be very cost effective. :)
 
I read through a bunch of old posts about FireFli strings but never found out:

What chip does the FireFli use? They put it on the back side of the board so you would have to destructively check it (or perhaps "trial and error" with a PB3212).

6803?
SD600?
something else?

and, in the search for pixels like the FireFli, has anyone come across a pixel cover that looks more like a C9 bulb than just a dome? I would just LOVE to put C9 sized pixels around my roof.

Dave, I'll name my next child after you!

I suspect that the manufacturers like to put 3 5050 chips into pixels because it fits the 12VDC profile better. While the domed cover on the these pixels are nice, I really like the idea of them looking like C9 bulbs. Wouldn't have to be an exact match, but close. 3 5050 chips would be plenty bright enough.

Further up this thread there is a video I made, It uses the 8mm standard pixels with a c7 cover on them.

Phil has sourced and can get some c9 covers to do the same thing.

Info can can be found elsewhere on the forum, under rgb pixels, 5050 omunen. or something like that.

is this the sort of thing you are looking for?
