I've bench tested them, but not in the field.
They are good in that they dont suffer from voltage drop to the same degree - and use considerably less power. That being said, they use the same power from complete black to full white - there is no power reduction with brightness.
My only reason to consider them was because I already run 24V around the yard which gets stepped down for props, this could have been fed directly.

It's on my list to re-consider next year for my solar panel matrices - my biggest concern is getting a multiple-of-6 pixel count.

ahh interesting, shooting a few messages to Ray earlier he's said keeping under 50% I might even get to all 1k lit without PI which sounds crazy.. I have a weird feeling there were other data rate limits and so fourth that get involved. (but it's been years since I had my head around all that)

did you try the different wire colours, interesting that they have different IP ratings (yet to get a reply back from Ray about that)

I've got 3 different wire colours (from 3 different vendors) on the 5V seeds on the solar panels.
Absolutely steer away from clear. After 1 season they are looking shabby. The wire is getiting quite brittle.

The black wire ones are in good nick, the epoxy on those has discoloured. The green wire ones are too thin, but that could just be that particular vendor.

Also keep in mind that you will be replacing pixels in 6-pixel lots.
There are 3 differnet pixels in the strand... A-B-B-B-B-C type...to do with the voltage sharing. So rather than working out which pixel type it is, it's easier to do all six.

interesting stuff, any idea what AWG these other vendors were supplying, some of the clear is hopeless though

Ray came back saying he's using 24 AWG on both wire types & same IP rating (so ignore that part of the listing I guess)

here's one that's worse!

12 in series hah, notice they say voltage tested up to 90v.. might be interesting if I had a super long run, you'd want the reliability to be right up there though.
