Diagonal cutters, those things that trim the wires.

Nothing beats high quality diagonal cutters, i've own cheapies (when i couldn't find the good ones) from the local electronics store and they are often worse than useless.

I have the Lindstrom 8160 diagonal cutter, absolutely great. The ones I own are over 20 years old and apart from some cosmetic melting of the non cutting surface after slicing through a live power cable they are as good as new.
You can still buy them new

Would i buy again: Absolutely, though i would probably buy the RX series.

I'll throw in my suggestions from McMaster-Carr www.mcmaster.com (I don't think they ship to AU):

3621A11 Steel Mini Thin-Head Wire Cutting Pliers Cushion-Grip, 20 Deg Head Angle, 11/32" Jaw Length $6.66 Each
3621A13 Steel Mini Thin-head Wire Cutting Pliers, Cushion-grip, 20 Deg Angle Head, 13/32" Jaw Length $11.71 Each

These, while not the .99 cent harbor freight ones, are still not really expensive. Highly recommended.
