My name is Kevin and I am from right outside of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I have been a Christmas Decoration enthusiast for long while now, but wanted to learn more about pixels and led lighting. "Hope your single, rich, and have a full liquor cabinet."
Read up, study, study, plan and repeat. Make sure you know what you're wanting before you spend money!
I would diffidently look around before buying kits, much cheaper and more suited when custom made. And it's part of the fun making your own!

Welcome to ACL Kevin. As Mark mentioned the ACL 101 manual is a great place to start. Usually someone lurking in the chat room if you have questions. Majority of members are from AUS so chat room tends to pickup in the late evening early morning hours for us in the USA. Tons of information and helpful people here at ACL.
