Actually, when done right, even with large displays the electric bill is minimal.
As already stated, the new revised 2nd addition AusChristmasLighting 101 manual is a great resource

I have been reading it. Very, very useful info. I'm looking for info related to this type of LED strip: http://www.dhgate.com/product/synchronously-25m-smd-5050-waterproof-ip65/186863896.html?recinfo=1,2,6#cppd-6-5|null:2
I want to use this LED strips (ignore the other components that come with the LED strips) with three leaping arches connected in parallel using this type of controller: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/27-CH-dmx-dimmer-Controller-27-channel-dmx-dimmer/1072758987.html in conjunction with LOR. Each leaping arch will have 9 sections of LED strips connected to each of the channel. I'd like to use three arches with one single controller. Is it doable or I have to use individual controller for each arch? Would this type of LED strip work or I have to look for different Dumb WS2811/2812 LED? Is it out there any other cheaper dongle than ENTTEC Open USB that works with LOR that I can use with this project and where can I find it?

Thank You in advance

Well, I will jump in and I'm sure other people will disagree with me, but this is the way I would go. Up front this way may not be the way to go for this year as there is very little time, but is the best way to start in my way of looking at it. I don't know how big you want your arches, but 3 5m rolls of these will be more than enough http://www.aliexpress.com/item/5m-led-digital-strip-DC12V-input-WS2811IC-256-scale-10pcs-IC-and-30pcs-5050-SMD-RGB/568458133.html One of these power suppliesc http://www.aliexpress.com/item/5V-350W-switch-mode-power-supply-LED-power-driver-AC90-260V-input-DC5V-350W-output-constant/1948831534.html and this pixel controller http://sandevices.com/E681info.html .... and LOR S3 advanced software. You won't need a dongle for this setup as the control board plugs into your ethernet port. There is a lot of learning to do with this system and takes some time, but overall will be much easier to control and wire up your arches. Like I said, it might be too late this year to take on something like this and the shipping may not even get to you in time, but I would take a serious look at it for next year for sure. Just my 2cents worth. Hope this helps.

John,

Thank You for your prompt reply. I apologize for not posting the complete info. The arches are 6'-6" X 3'-3" straight length is 10 FT (1.98 M X 1M straight length 3M). I have been reading about the E681 and I'm planing to buy one or two and use it for the next Mega tree for next year (I still have to do more reading though). But for this year I was thinking to use the controller I posted in the previous post since I have already bent all my 3/4" PVC pipe. I have not bought the controller/s and the LED strips since I was not sure if I can use one controller/3 arches or I have to buy 3 controllers, one/arch. I already have LOR S3 installed. I just started the Christmas display 2 years ago with 3 boards LOR CTB32LD and now I decided to take it to the next level. I have been reading about most of the DMX controllers and I figured, I might be able to get the arches going for this year....maybe.
