Hello from Wagga Wagga

Welcome to ACL! You will find a lot of great people here who can help. I don't know anyone who likes all the power supply wires and what not, but it's a fact of life with lighting. Let me be the first to suggest 12v pixels/dumb strings/strips as there is a lot less power injection involved. Agan, welcome and stop by chat and say hello.

POE is not a suitable solution. It can't deliver enough power, and if you are using computer type ethernet equipment then you need to realise that there is some talking going on between the power source, and the power destination. Typically pixel lighting equipment does not do that.

Cheers Davrus, you're spot on.

It doesn't look like it will be too long before it's possible though. A couple of the big tech companies are developing POE tech that (they say) will be able to power PCs that usually run off 300-400w power supplies. Considering that typical network switches usually have between 4-48 ports, that's a lot of potential power. Probably cost as much as a small island nation too!
