I am using the one simply called circles. what are teh advantages of the other ones?

A full treatment is likely impossible... briefly, here are a few effects you could use and the merits - alphabetical order
Circles - good multiple for bouncing circles, bubbles, and shaded blobs... poor choice for everything else
Fan - If you put the sliders on the extremes it is just a circle - but it allows a lot of expansion, movement, color, and shading
Pinwheel - If you put the thickness slider all the way up it's a circle also. Lots of interesting color and movement options
Ripple - can do a single shape (circle or otherwise) - allows more interesting movement and shading
Shape - can do one or a lot of shapes (circle or otherwise) - interesting settings on movement of the individual items, but can be set to draw just one circle in a chosen location
Shockwave - popular choice for a single circles / filled circles / blended circles... good for movement of the center, expansion, and contraction... spatial color curves
Video and Picture works also but I suppose that's just being silly. Spirograph, sketch, and galaxy can do circles in various ways.
