Installing FPP on Raspberry PI 3B+

Hi All,

I received my Raspberry PI and rPI-28D+ and other bits and pieces today (Thank you Alan).

Now to load put it all together and start playing. What is the recommened Micro SD card size to use ? From what I've read also, it can be also be used for storing the sequence files instead of using a USB stick. Is that true ?

Are the any tips on installing FPP ? Do I need to connect a keyboard and monitor to the PI ?

just grab a microsd card of decent quality..... unless you're going to put stacks of sequences on it, you can get by with probably a 4Gb one, but probably the best value ones would be the 16Gb ones. :)
 
I used the manual yesterday to get it all installed and running.
You do everything over a web browser, so If your Pi has an ethernet jack, hook that to the same network as your computer is on. The manual will tell you the rest

I used a 32gb card, seems to have plenty of space and you could get away with a 16gb one for sure. The manual suggests avoiding using a USB stick for storage as it can lead to stutter and lag
 
Installing Falcon Pi Player onto a Raspberry Pi
FPP 3.2

For everyone out there that requires assistance with installing falcon pi player to a raspberry pi here is a quick how to guide.

Download the following:
1. Etcher (Burns FPP image to a removable micro SD card) https://www.balena.io/etcher/
2. Latest Version of Falcon Pi Player: https://github.com/FalconChristmas/fpp/releases (download the latest FPP-V*.*-Pi.img.zip

Step 1:
Take a Microsd Card (Minimum 4GB) and insert into a MicroSD to USB converter: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Micro-S...H-SDHC-MINI-ADAPTER-32GB-64GB-16/332582425783

Step 2:
Open Etcher and click Select Image.
Navigate to your FPP-V*.*-PI.img.zip which should be in your downloads folder.
Ensure the correct sized media is select (SD Card)
Press Flash.

Step 3:
When the image has been written to the SD card take it out of your computer and plug it into your Raspberry Pi.
Power on your Pi.

Step 4:
Wait 1-4 Minutes for the first time configuration to run.
Go to a computer connected to the same network as the PI's ethernet cable.
Assuming this is the Only Raspberry PI running FPP on your Network open your browser and navigate to http://fpp/ (ensuring that you are running a DHCP network)
This should bring up Falcon PI Player's web interface.


My other tips for FPP if you are new is to not listen to everyone advising that you must separate your show network and home network. This does not need to be done.

Thank you for that. It makes it seem so simple.

Do you need to format the SD Card to a specific file type first ?
