I’ve been eyeing off those pliers and with a couple thousand pixels to do for the tree I just might need to buy one to save my hands!
And thanks Dreamin, I hadn’t thought of warming up the strip in the sun to soften it a little.

Hey Shaun do you have any photos on how you mount your guy wires to the top of the tree?

I'm going to do mine tomorrow, so I can take some pics of what I end up with
Thanks Kate, that would be great. Mines all ready to go just waiting for my concrete to fully set before I put it up but having different thoughts about the guy wires so wanting to make sure I’m doing it right

I ended up using one of these at the very top of the pole. https://www.bunnings.com.au/enduraseal-44-5-50-8mm-stainless-steel-t-bolt-hose-clamp_p0110772
I used some 100kg rope which I ran through the clamp and tied off to some anchor points. https://www.bunnings.com.au/grunt-galvanised-d-ring-anchor-points-4-pack_p4310462 I joined the two ends with a truckers knot. Pole has had some heavy winds and it hasn't moved. The 100kg (yes rookie mistake) is tied down with ratchet straps to my driveway. The thing to remember would the guy wires is to attach them to the pole, not the topper. They are supporting the pole, so should be as high as possible. :)
