leaping arches - first time building anything!!!

i received the hdpe pipe (it was all cut into 1m lengths) because of the nature of the material, it is nearly impossible to join without specialised equipment (I will try and melt it together), I might just use the 1 inch stuff i have coming from the us, due to be delivered today.

I got the asian supplier to re-quote on sending the pipe uncut, for 200m shipped by sea (30 days approx) $348USD, which is not bad, but i might wait until the dollar goes up and think about it for next year. or if anyone wants to go halvsies with me i might get it this year :)

tested a short length with my lights and it looks rad!

I would get in contact with a freight forwarding company to get a more realistic quote on shipping. This will include taxes, port fees, material handling etc. the price from your supplier will more than likely just be for the time it's on the boat. Also ask about packaging as it needs to be packed properly for shipping i.e. Timber box and cost of getting it to the port from the warehouse.

I'd like to offer to help in some small way if you are looking to import larger shipments from OS. I have been in procurement/supply chain for many years. I deal with freight forwarding companies regularly (not so the past 2 months) and they trip over trying to outdo each other. I may not be able to get better pricing or terms, but willing to try and help. I'm willing to converse with your suppliers to twist their arms too if it helps at all. I can be persuasive when needed.
Anyway, the offer is always here if I can help my fellow ACL members in any way.

When you've got a better handle on what the final delivered price will be, I would probably be interested.

I am also embarking on building leaping arches for the first time. I found a source of LDPE tube in here in Victoria. It is sold as "air seeder tubing" by Enzed stores (hydraulic repairs specialists). Comes in 2 sizes 1" and 2". I bought 12m of 1" for around $6 per metre.

Hope this helps someone.

Watch now as everyone takes a trip to their local Enzed store tomorrow to see what this tubing is and then there is a shortage come Friday lol

How flexible is this tube, i.e. Can it maintain a arch in our sun without support in the middle ?
Sounds very interesting

The two sizes available are 25mm and 38mm (Outer diameter)

it should retain an arc, not sure about the LDPE, but HDPE needs to be heated to 380oF to melt for joining (thats what i was told anyway) so i think it would take a lot of heat.

next year i am going to import 200m of 50mm HDPE from china... hopefully i can sell some here, as i will only need about 30m of it...

got a final quote on a 200m roll of 50mm dia HDPE pipe.

$285 USD shipped.

if anyone in SA is interested, I would be keen to share some at cost, to lower my expendature.
I will be at the Adelaide mini, if anyone wants to talk about it.

cheers

I think I will need to approach you at the mini, I am sure we can divide that up between most of us.

Ohhhh I like that idea very much, definitely will relieve you of one at the mini. Much like the tint tubes I confiscated from Karob and haven't touched since over a year ago lol.

Maybe I can figure these out instead.
