Hi everyone!
As another Christmas season lights up, we want to take a moment to reflect on the amazing community we’ve built together here at AusChristmasLighting. A massive thank you to @ryanschristmaslights for his tireless efforts behind the scenes. Thanks to him, the site keeps humming along with minimal downtime, allowing us all to enjoy this wonderful corner of the internet without a hitch. This year we had a big migration to our new hosting provider, which went flawlessly. As someone who works with this stuff daily, I know what a feat that is - so thank you.
Here are some fun statistics that Ryan has provided for us about ACL for the calendar year
From 1 Jan 2024 to 24 Dec 2024:
Did you know it costs real dollars to keep this site running? From hosting fees to software updates, it all adds up. If you’ve gained knowledge, inspiration, or even just a smile from being part of this community, consider supporting AusChristmasLighting with a small donation. Not only does it help offset costs, but you’ll also earn the coveted Generous Elf badge for your profile—a badge of honor among our blinky family!
A warm welcome to our 1000+ new members who joined us this year! Whether it’s your first season diving into the world of pixels and props, or you’re still planning and learning, we’re thrilled to have you here. We hope the forums and community have been a helpful source of knowledge, creativity, and support. Please remember there are the Mini Expos running in May to July, where you can meet many of the other nutters in this community, and learn and share experiences with them.
To everyone who put their blood, sweat, and soldering irons into their displays, take a step back and admire what you’ve achieved. Ignore the odd misaligned prop or that one stubborn pixel—we promise your audience doesn’t notice! While the world shops at BigW and Bunnings for plug-and-play solutions, you’ve embraced the challenge and created something truly magical. That’s no small feat, and you should be incredibly proud.
Special thanks go out to everyone involved in this year’s edition of ACLATW (AusChristmasLighting Around The World)! A huge shoutout to @Danielr for orchestrating the sequencing and @Mark_M for his stellar video editing skills, giving us all more than a few fleeting seconds of fame. The result is something truly special, and we’re grateful for all the effort that went into showcasing the magic our community creates. Take a look at the final video here.
To the rest of the admin and mod team—thank you for stepping in whenever needed to keep the forums running smoothly and helping out. Your efforts behind the scenes are invaluable, and we’re grateful for all that you do.
Also a special welcome to our new Community Project Designer, @domhodgson, who, like many of our other vendor members, provides amazing help for his products on the market.
Finally, on behalf of the entire AusChristmasLighting crew, we wish you a very Merry Christmas and a happy, pixel-filled New Year! May your holidays be filled with family, friends, and well-deserved rest (with a side of new props, pixels, and inspiration for the 2025 season). Here’s to another year of learning, sharing, and lighting up the world together!
Merry Christmas,
Mike
