I just got a quote from mysolarled and the strings and prices look pretty good.
I was after between 50 and 100 strings of 24V 20m/200led with a 10 metre lead in to the first led.

24V, black wire , 200 LED per set , 10cm bulb spacing , with 10M spare wire at one end only, without power lead or plug . Total length is 30 M per PCS .
Prices per string were
Red $12.04
Yellow $12.04
Blue $12.97
Green $13.34
White $13.34
Warm White $14.82
R/Y/B/G $13.34

Not sure on delivery costs yet and I'll get a sample and let you know what they are like.

Below is a sample of their lights.

Has your sample of these arrived and been tested yet?
If you get a cheaper price by bulk buying I could add some to your order if you do.

Cheers

I haven't actually ordered yet. I've been here there and everywhere for the last 2 weeks. School holidays and rugrats at home is killing me. I'm also working on staying below the $1000 customs level.
I really should send them an email tomorrow to get a price on the revised strings that I decided to go with.

I hope theres no tax people looking at this 8)

But if you ask Kelly nicely she will do a proforma invoice up for you under the $1000 AU to get it past customs without the extra taxes.

Freight will be a killer. Leaving it this late, the only way to get them here on time is air and it will cost an arm and a leg.

I used mysolarled last year with only a few light string failures.

They are a very good buy.

freight certainly is the killer, just got a quote for next year strings, good price at $7 for 100 LED strings but
shipping for 70 strings to oz is around $300.

I have sent them a note asking for prices and shipping details.

If anyone in Melb (or elsewhere) has a sample string I could borrow for testing, I'd appreciate seeing what the quality is like.
I'll need to update the Megatree next year (2012) as the 120 VAC mini globes have faded. 12.000 lights need replacing.
John.

I am keen to see any info I can about these when it is available. I have been out looking for LEDs for next years tree but the shops are empty here. We can usually get a few thousand or so on Boxing Day but no luck this year.

I am interested in getting some over to NZ and I know there may be a couple of others keen as well so any info on quality would be appreciated.

I guess I should let everyone know that I didn't go with mysolarled. The reason was the freight cost. I ended up getting a bunch of strings through Ray Wu at AliExpress. The main reason was the freight. There was about $400 freight from mysolarled and and a couple hundred from Ray Wu. I also got controllers and power supplies shipped from Ray at the same time. This tipped the balance. I probably should have gone with mysolarled for the leds as Ray mucked up my order and the leds I got weren't exactly what I ordered. That appears to be the only problem with Ray. He doesn't seem to understand technical specs as well as full on specialists like mysolarled. There is also speculation in chat here that there are a number of "Rays" who handle the AliExpress chat and possibly ordering.

Here is their response,

24V , 100 LED per set , 10 cm bulb spacing , black wire , without power lead or Transformer .with 5 Meters bare wire only from the first LED bulb. The attached picture is for your reference . It is around 10 Meters between the first LED and the last LED bulb .

l have bought many sets of lights from kelly at mysolarled over past few years but.......... yes there always is a but, 2 years ago l bought $800 worth of strings (keep it under $1000)and the postage was about around $600 last year another $700 dollars worth and the postage was about $650. because of the good dollar we bought more for our money and thats why the freight seem to be dearer, overall it works out to be about au$8 for a 100 led string the same type in bunnings this year is $19

I have just recieved my latest $1200 order with no problems. As long as you specify what you want, that is what you will get and its still cheapper and better quality than any store in Aus.
