all good caming in the country will pay the gst no more under 1000 the second the oversea trade do not collect the gst for the government will be block they are going in hard with is get in early

I seriously doubt this will eventuate. The same subject comes up every year. I can't see all overseas supplies wanting to deal with our GST at their end.

From that article:

He said he was confident big players like online retailer Amazon would take part, but could not guarantee smaller companies would comply.

So would eBay Australia step in and somehow withhold GST from their non Australian sellers?

What about the myriad of AliExpress sellers?

[moved from wrong thread!]

Something else to remember is that the increased cost would only be 10%. Not much considering how cheap stuff is from overseas.

You could loose way more than that by rashly ordering stuff to beat the July 1 deadline and not using it, or finding something better (this hobby changes fast!) later in the year.

I have made some overseas purchases lately that have had the extra fees for tax put on top, so looks like there are some that are starting to do this. At least the shipment doesn't get delayed when done this way

I understand this is a problem that needs addressing.

With that said, I love how totally untenable this will be. They will spend 5 billion trying to recover 2 billion. Only person that will somewhat win will be the Aussie brick and mortar retailers, as they will be slightly more competitive.

Surely better solutions can be found.
