So I guess there isn't that much interest in a sub-$100 kit for these - at least right now?

Jim has indicated he has some E680 boards, and they could be had for less than $15 in bulk.

Component costs are fairly low, shipping to AUS isn't a big roadblock...

I am guessing most are just waiting for pixad8's to be available (and then not have to DIY)

I've actually spoken to Jim who has offered to send over a full kit for around the same price so I am going to grab one (haven't put together a kit for many years so should be interesting)

The pixad8 is as a price point many of us simply cant turn down. While I would like, and may well buy an E680/1, the pixad8 will be the main item used this year for some of the smaller display items like rose garden, leaping arches and comet

Mschell has a group buy going for both controllers over on the diy forum. I think pricing is coming in under $100 even with shipping to Australia, that's for the E681. Info on the product is at sandevices.com, also available assembled/tested there. String connectors and pinout same as the PIXAD8.
