Setup:
HE123mk2 (with battery) for stand alone.
BBB
FPP8.5
Sound blaster player3

Question:
Is it possible to run directly to the BBB via a laptop with out a switching hub and/or internet.

Why:
My lights start up every night without issues however I have to restart the system multiple time before I get sound to work.
Unfortunately due to the location and distance for my setup I cannot run a ethernet cable and WI-FI does drop out constantly.

I also shut down everything at the end of each night and restart the following evening.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

UPDATE: I dragged my setup back inside and updated to v9.4 (please work tonight) and I’ve noticed after a number of restarts and reboots the SB3 isn’t being detected and often the temperature isn’t showing on the HE123 Oled screen or on the pc.

I wouldn't currently use anything later than 8.4.
If you are running an FM transmitter then sometimes if it is too close to the sound card it can cause glitches which will have FPP disable the sound card.

I think there's night be an error in my eeprom code that causes this to happen sometimes.
It's rare, but just cosmetic. If the OLED itself is working, and the HE123 appears in the channel outputs section that means the Cape is being detected fine.

I would be looking at the distances between the BBB and the transmitter as Alan mentions. Also, you might want to try a powered USB hub between the BBB and the SBPlay because the power output of the beagle isn't awesome.

As for versions, I'm running 9.3 on my FPP based controllers without issue and master/9.4 on my show player + panel pi.

Hi Alan,
Fm transmitter is just over 1m away from my setup, If needed I can move it further away?

Hi skymaster,
Oled screen is working and I’m sure Ive seen the screen flash cape detected…. Lights worked fine last night just no sound.
Do you think this one from Bunnings would work. Picture attached.
