I'm looking at creating a pixel matrix of high density. My plan is firstly to create a matrix 2.5m long (1/2 a strip) running of a p12s. So too start with only 6 strips. 12 pixels high. Then add to it in the upcoming years making it taller. Because if this I want to get the highest pixel count from a strip I can.

All my display so far is ws2811 and dc12v but I can't seem to find anything with a high pixel count.

I did find this one though

Also what is better, strip in silicone tube or strip in silicone coating. I think a few years ago I had some white LEDs in silicone coating and I found it really hard to solder so I have up.

Or maybe this one

But get Ray to cut it at 172 pixels and have 12 strips

If you really want very tight high density you can get a 144 LEDs per metre using the 2812B chip. I would ask ray how much it would be with the silicone coating as this one doesnt have any coating.

But thats by far the highest density strip that I have seen in pixel strips

That's in tense. I wanted to at least get a 2m straight length from 1 universe. So 80 pixels per m would be about right.

Hmm now you got me thinking 144 per/m could work if I use a p2, but how often would I have to inject power. Would I make it thru 288 pixels without power injection.

At the moment I'm leaning towards 60 pixels per m. 2.5m long 12 pixels high. I know it's not massively tall but I want to use it for scrolling text. Next year I'll do 24 pixels high the maybe 36 year after that.

Here is my matrix. I ended up doing 14 rows by 90 pixels. If I was doing it over I would have done 85 pixels (2 rows per universe) instead, and then I could have done 16 rows. I used one ECG-P2 to control the matrix.

I decided to use pvc and I stained it "black" using this http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260720985413#ht_772wt_1174
The black stain ended up being more dark blue, but that was fine with me. My matrix went on my roof and I didn't want the white pvc to stick out like a sore thumb during the day.

I was really happy with the matrix, scrolling text looked great.

That looks great! Any issue with it or lessons learned?

I am planning on making a 20x72 matrix out of 30LED/m WS2811 5V pixels (my first dabbling into pixels). I mostly want to scroll text (a Christmas countdown), but since it has the ability to do more, I hope to expand on it.

I am still trying to figure out how to mount it before I take the next step.
