A lot of questions/discussion on when/if we will support these pixels.

I wish we had them working and could say positively yes, but until we have them working in the lab I can't give a 110% guarantee.

GECE - Protocol is a little weird. It is cpu intensive and COULD be problematic to get done absolutely right. We will do our best but I wouldn't want to give more than a 75% projection that it will be practical. With our boards trying to support 8 to 12 universes of pixel data the bandwidth/cpu time per pixel could be limited. We try to use very efficient lookup table to trade of cpu vs. memory restraints but won't know the true impact until we get them working. Expect a resolution, either way, with June releases of firmware for PIXAD8, P12R, P2 products.

WS2811 - Protocol is a minor variation of the TM180x. We are working on a separate protocol for this chip but also playing with a middle of the road variation of our current TM180x protocol. Either way we expect +98% success. Expect to have it working in the lab this weekend.

Great news youve just saved us a heap on lights now we can buy more which means we will need more controllers

Awesome news. Thanks for the update Ed!! I'd be willing to trade off using fewer strings on a controller for the ability to run my existing GECE if that's what it took.

Great to hear about the ws2811 update Ed, with the price of the Strip/Strings that Ray is offering there will plenty of us using them.

well, you can take the WS2811 to +99%. I played with some this afternoon and they appear to work fine on the TM180X protocol at 2400kbps.

Technically the TM180X protocol is a 1:2 vs 2:1 (total 3 time periods) ratio. that doesn't match the specs for the WS2811 but it seems to work fine.

I'm going to implement a 1:3 vs 3:1 (total 4 time periods) ratio. It is still not match the spec but I bet it will work very well with the WS2811 and may even be the newer standard for the TM180X. I will leave TM180X at 1:2/2:1 and do WS2811 at 1:3/3:1. then people can play. if we need to go to 1:4/3:2 (which is closest to the spec) then we can, but I don't think it will be necessary.

..........wonders just what we need to do to get Ed raised as a Diety.......... Thanks Ed.

Maybe we could all send Ed 50% of the savings made :)

Cheers

Awsome news Ed, looks like the 2811 may end up as the pixel of choice based on price, dimming qualaties and possible distance they can run from the controller (spec sheet claims 20 metres, but this needs to be proven)

Hey Ed, now that you mentioned the uDCG-P2 and ECG-P2, how are they looking, bet you will sell plenty of these.

Ouch ..... Bought 24 strings of 6803 a month ago... Sure wish I had waited now. I could have made my half mega tree into a full mega tree. Not to worry. J1SYS, could you drop a post when the P12R are back in stock. I'll need one to run my "New" strings

Hey Ed - I've played with some 2811 modules on a PixAd8 in 180x mode at 2000kbps, and they seem to work fine (even if I stick the 2811 modules at the end of a 1804 string).

Just curious why it actually works??

Kane,

The main reason it will work is the amount of built in tolerance allowed to cater for signal degradation and noise.

This means that the 2811 is seeing the 1804 pixel output as close enough the get valid data, maybe due to short distance.
Once the first 2811 regenerates the stream it's in 2811 timing mode for the remainder of the string.

Well that's the theory at least

Does the J1sys12P work on the GECE light string?
if so, how?
obviously there are some wiring differences.. the GECE has 3 wires (the middle one is the data).
but what chip set do i use in the configuration setup of the j1sys web screen?
is there an update to the FIRMWARE?
E1.31 is enabled
